Brineworks wins First Place at Columbia Venture Competition
Brineworks won First Prize in Columbia University’s SIPA Dean’s Public Policy Challenge Grant, earning a spot among the winners of 2023 Columbia Venture Competition. The $20,000 grant helped kick-start our journey to scalable carbon removal.

In October 2022, nine semifinalist teams were selected for the tenth SIPA Public Policy Challenge and took part in bootcamps on prototyping, financial planning, law and startups, and effective pitching, with added funding and advisor support. In February 2023, five finalists were chosen to continue development, including Brineworks.
Two months later, Brineworks was awarded First Place in Columbia’s SIPA Dean’s Public Policy Challenge Grant for technology that removes CO₂ in a highly measurable and permanent way through advanced processing of desalination brine. This early recognition set a strong foundation for the progress that followed.
