Brineworks Opens Direct Air Capture Demonstration Plant in Amsterdam
Brineworks opened its Direct Air Capture (DAC) demonstration plant at Amsterdam Science Park, with early data supporting its target of capturing CO2 below €100 per ton at scale.
Designed to capture up to 100 tons of CO2 per year, the plant uses Brineworks’ breakthrough electrolyzer to capture atmospheric CO2 while co-producing green hydrogen.
Powered by renewable electricity, the technology enables carbon removal and e-fuel production, with captured CO2 serving as essential feedstocks for e-fuels such as sustainable aviation fuel and e-methanol for shipping.
The demonstration marks a key step towards commercial readiness, validating system performance ahead of a first commercial plant. Brineworks is now in discussions with e-fuel and carbon removal partners to support the next phase of deployment.
